Frequently Asked Questions
Must I have a survey?
Strictly speaking no, however, you are probably making a significant financial investment and from my own experience the term "liveable" in France, is sometimes a term that can stretch the most vivid imaginations.
What types of survey are available?
A full range of inspections are available, the most common being the Building Survey and the Structural Integrity Report.

The main difference is the style of reporting, the inspections will basically be the same, however, whilst the Building Survey is an in depth room by room, wall by wall report on the property, and the structural integrity report deals with the more serious items of disrepair in a list-style format.
What will the survey cover?
This obviously depends upon the type of survey required. Both the Building Survey and Structural Integrity Report will concentrate on the following:

  • Roof
  • Walls
  • Rainwater installation
  • External joinery
  • Roofspace
  • Dampness
  • Floors
  • Ceilings
  • Fireplaces
How long will it take to produce the survey report?
This will depend upon the access arrangements, although normally within 48 hours.

Once the survey has been carried out; the report will normally take 5 days to produce and is sent electronically unless otherwise required.

A verbal report will be given to you following the inspection and will highlight any matters that have an urgent or significant effect.
